Hard levels caps are so fucking shit. If you don’t want your player to be overleveled than actually balance your level curve. If they grind to overlevel anyway? LET EM! The funny thing is, there’s already a level system that works to prevent grinding and over leveling (Gen 5/7 exp mechanics) but retards patch it out of those games anyway.

Yea gen 5 had it right, they managed to both make it easier to train more Pokémon and harder to train a few Pokémon at the same time. They literally had the perfect system. Then one gen later they remove it and add the EXP share which attempts to solve the same issue but does it infinitely worse

I gave up on the fight with Giovanni where he has a fucking sand team with garchomp and excadrill. Like halfway through the game. I tried a few times but I had to get only good rolls just to get to the last Pokémon.
I'm cool if you want to make a hard game but throwing that much smogon faggotry at you is just lame.

Unbound is so much better but it still has a problem with encounter bloat from stuffing 7 generations of pokemon in a single region, which is my biggest issue with these hacks. 3-4 generations worth of pokemon is the perfect sweet spot for me. 5-6 is pushing it but doesn't end up being too bad. 7+ is just way too many Pokemon to find in the wild.

No because you spend a variable amount of time trying to catch a pokemon with good IVs and then EV that pokemon which makes you gain a lot of unwanted experience. Hard level caps are an easy and quick way to fix the overleveling issue without rethinking the entire IV/EV system for a marginal gameplay improvement.

It's actually sorta fun and feels good to beat gym leaders and rocket leaders but I'm forever stuck on the cerulean cave 3 way. I have a full team of perfect EV pokemon with type advantages but by the time I kill the first leader half my team is dead and the other one finishes me off. It's a nightmare.

Lol what a fucking weinie. It takes like 15-20 minutes to build an entire new team from the ground up if needed by that point in the game. There's no reason you shouldn't have been able to zero in on a way to cripple his stat and win. You just quit when the going got tough rather than legitimately strategizing in the game that bar-none makes it the easiest to do so.

are there romhacks that up the difficulty without killing the sense of progression? radical red, inclement emerald, unbound, kaizo games all have you fighting full teams of fully evolved mons by third or fourth gym and after that the sense of progression is lost completely
