Its a waste of time, which is perfect, since it just gives me something to do in the world, gives me a place to live and decorate and sorta create a space for me in the world. I'll admit without multiplayer connections they lose something, but at the same time series like animal crossing exist that are literally nothing but home decor. Its always frustrating to me that the mechanic was made way worse in diamond and pearl, then dropped from all subsequent games. Because I really value these extra "things to do in the world" that aren't directly related to catching and battling.
