>>53376275I'm going to be honest, I'm not entirely sure.
I actually did enjoy Shield for what little I got out of it, but the postgame was nothing, the DLCs felt like nothing aside from a few trips to grab a few legendaries. I felt zero desire to continue playing once I beat the main story. I lost hundreds of hours just trying and failing to shiny-hunt in other games, breeding for stats, fucking around in post-game facilities.
For some reason I felt no desire to do any of that. I picked it up again when the DLCs came out, completed the stories of those, caught a couple of legendaries, then dipped, didn't touch the game again until SV came out. I think it was mostly going through the growing pains of moving to the new format in a way that even XY didn't struggle with. SV is basically just a straight improvement over it. Of course even then, those aren't perfect games, they have plenty of problems, but I actually keep playing Scarlet now that I've beaten it.
Though, to be fair, with Colosseum and Gale of Darkness didn't have much of a postgame either, maybe I hadn't been conditioned into expecting bigger postgames. I mean, my introduction to the series was DPP, which had an entire big new area to explore once you beat the champion. Then right into HGSS, which had an entire second region. Maybe my introduction to the mainline just kind of spoiled me and it felt like too many things that used to be givens were taken away and locked behind money or tedium going into Shield.
