I'd say the main defining factor for all of them is a lack of good switch ins, due to a combination of good coverage on top of high power behind their attacks.
I do think to some degree you could expect some of the banned mons to take out others though. Flutter Mane was the first to get banned, but low defense means it can be taken out by priority from Chien-Pao or Palafin. Palafin itself would probably have to worry a lot more with Walking Wake around resisting Jet Punch and Wave Crash so heavily, and in turn Walking Wake does not want to deal with Flutter Mane.
I think the end result is a metagame where the game is a matchup of knowing what to sac and when to go for a revenge kill, where a single wasted turn early on can just quickly snowball into a loss with very little counterplay. No doubt that's impossible for old mons to keep up with, but this is nearly a dozen new mons we're talking about that are hitting these crazy power levels.
