If it was just an issue of having weakness to common special attacks then at least they could function as dedicated physical walls, but they're also weak to three very common physical attacking types.

Shows how bad rock type is when they have to go to such lengths to make it competitively viable. Imagine if a fairy or ghost type got Purifying Salt and Salt Cure.
