The problem with Coromon is that the story doesn't end, and you have a giant nothing at the end because the devs published it too soon.
The whole storyline of the blue dudes doesn't get explained, you need to imagine what their end-game was.
The final dungeon is incomplete and inaccessible, so you're stuck with fighting the water boss, instead of the one that the white orb represent w/e it may be.
The creatures are all fun, but too few by today standard, so after the third boss you're stuck with the same ones, which doesn't rewards you for exploring the area and become just another kind of challange.
The fight background are too few and don't change too much, which is a shame.

Apart from this faults, the game is well crafted.
The Pixel art is one of the best for pokeclones, the monster are all interesting and have good movepool.
The maps are well crafted, you can feel the sense of adventure going throught them, the minigames are fun, talking with the npc is actually helpful compared to Pokémon and the likes, and the dungeon have interesting environmental puzzles. The game "shinies" are not retarded difficult to find, and they reward you for having them, because they are not simply the same thing with a "coloration", but garant them stats bost.

My impressions, really.

If Pokémon were really a franchise about games where you go around and capture and battle monsters, Coromon would definitely have the upper hand. The gameplay loop of the Pokémon monster-catching game is much better in all aspects.

The issue is that Pokémon incorporates many other elements that have nothing to do with the gameplay loop, such as attractive underage characters for the increasingly more important pedo audience.

Hence why there is a Pokémon Masters. It is because this franchise is ever less about the Pokémon.

I keep putting off trying this. I've been hesitant to try new things in general, autistically valuing my time thinking that if I don't end up at least loving things I would be fulfilled. Monster taming stuff is even more fickle. I really like how stuff was pre gen 5 so if it at least has a similar feeling I'll probably be into it. love the spritework.

What? You just have to have something tho hit bosses effectively, like, I cleared Ghost legendary with that one Fire bull mon who had ghost move on it, or ground one what was piss easy to deal with because of Shark Starter.

I never played this game in early state or whatever but I had no problems with it when I played it on Switch recently.
