See, you're ignoring what merch sales actually mean - the higher the engagement the more people care for what's on offer. Cinder sold, Primarina routinely sold out. And they didnt shil it half the mount they'd shilled Incineroar and still got that reception. They shiled Cinderace all through Gen 8, but not at furfags and it wasn't feminine enough to attract them (I bought a Zaccian and G-Rapidash plush instead, for example). So Game Freak went and fixed that fuck-up as well as making it the fastest and one the hardest-hitting starters to-date. And two also-rans to ensure it can't be challenged as starter shillmon.
