The colours need altering as well IMO. I particularly hate the purple. Also the eyes are too sinister for a starter.

No no, you got it all wrong. You need to put the multi colors on Skeledirge's head, save for the nostrils, on the fire bird as a mask instead. So you'd have a cute day of the dead chickadee while Skeledirge's head looks nearly normal.

i don't draw but this is how i would "fix" it
