It's on rail which is super retrictive when it comes to what the player can see and what is actually rendered. Being able to do that on such small maps isn't impressive at all.
The issue with modern pokemon games is not that GF is unable to do good graphics, it's that they still can't optimize things correctly for an open-world.

Still looks better than the slop they churn out every year. They should make pokemon games smaller, turn around from this open world nonsense. And while they're at it have a seperate evergreen hub game where you can play with every pokemon ever and not worry about dexit

This. Also, the dialogue text is not as sharp as the menu text for some reason. It's hard to explain. Still, no random encounters is a bonus, and the orchestra OST can be restored via romhacking.

it is clear now that handheld consoles were not holding pokemon back, that was the best they could do.

Wheter you like it is beside the point. The OG Japanese version didn't even have it, yet they added an English dub. The 3ds version had dubs for both languages. Mainline Pokemon games never had voice acting because they are rushed and outdated games with cut corners everywere but you consoomers keep buying them
