I love Alola's character designs because they're so simple (mainly because of the climate), so many other characters are over designed and ridiculous, nobody would wear the majority of the outfits after gen 7, and there's some dumb ones before 7 too

Alola character designs were the perfect mix of anime and cartoony. They're simple in a good way. I don't how the designer of Lusamine goes on to fucking Geeta.

Despite any grievances I have with the game itself, Alola had the most personality and heart I think. It felt like the first time the staff had a strong, cohesive vision of what they wanted the region to be and how the characters would live in it.

Absolutely astounding how sword and shield immediately shat on all of that.

It's easily 6, no contest. When it came out most people were more interested in the random npc trainers than any of story-relevant ones like gym leaders, rivals etc, which says a lot. They even went out of their way to make this coom brigade and still nobody cared, that's how you know they fucked up big time.

For sure. It is probably the most aesthetically consistent game in the series. From how the pokemon designs match it's inspiration and feel realistic to the region without feeling too stereotypical, to how the characters manage to be both memorable and colourful yet never overly gimmicky and outlandish. Even the game's artstyle is the perfect fit, neither too childish and nor too realistic. That's why SWSH basically copied it, a shame it didn't copy anything else from it and just butchered everything else

He was a bit weird but the thing they had with calling you cousin really worked for me and made me feel closer to the cast, Samuel Oak made it seem like people really had a cousin there. They could have utilized him better.

I really brought him up because Johto has that little going for it in terms of characters otherwise.
Him being a winterly gramps is just cool.
Whitney and Clair are bitchey and Jasmine is one of the least remarkable girls in the series.
