Honestly a sandboxy Pokemon game that throws player in middle of nowhere and leave them to their own devices would be soulful af. SV can't even do that properly. Minecraft mogs Pokemon as game for casuals, SaGa mogs Pokemon as open world RPG and NetHack mogs Pokemon as game for hardcore fans of figuring out mechanics.

A very old roguelike game, often called one of the most complex games ever created. It's quite different type of game than Pokemon, obviously, but I put it there more to compare complexity of mechanics. Pokemon is outpaced in every possible category.
