If old fans just take whatever GameFreak gives them, why should they appeal to them? New games should be designed to draw in new fans. Hence why they have become 'Press A' to win.

Old fans have fangames and romhacks. GF surely does know they exist. And they do know how much criticism their new games are getting. They have been ignoring this in the past, but this counter-movement is becoming more prominent, with people getting more creative and active in the fan community. So eventually, GF will have to react, or they will lose not only their loyal fans, but new audiences as well. Something has to change.
