>>53436470>when pokemon endedgen 4 feels like the last generation to stick to the series' roots before wild experimentation took over in gen 5 onwards, and no matter how much I love gen 5 I can't deny that it was the beginning of the end for the series' old style
>when pokemon diedgen 7 is when it stopped feeling like Pokemon anymore, regardless of how decent the gen was. Gen 8 was the first one that was total dogshit, but gen 7 was trying to ape YKW so hard that in the process it lost what little remaining identity the series had after changing so much in the two gens preceding it
I wouldn't say things started getting bad until XY, but Pokemon itself was pretty much done with HGSS. Its reinvention managed to go very very well for the first generation, but the moment said reinvention got backlash it began a nosedive not sharp enough to kill it instantly but not broad enough to be of enjoyable quality past another entry or two. As it is now, the franchise has been a zombie for at least seven years and its rotten corpse is slowly falling apart piece by piece as it shambles along.
