When it bothers with worldbuilding, Digimon is way better at worldbuilding that Pokemon. Basically Digimon is Pokemon with all the dials turned way up. That's why, for example, the standard evolution chain has five rungs in it (not counting newborn babies) for Digimon while Pokemon has never strayed farther than three. Or why Digimon has played the "monster so powerful that it threatens to destroy the universe/multiverse erely by existing" card like five times, whereas Pokemon has done that like twice.
