The "Gropius" connection he brings up in that video is interesting. In my research, I assumed "Gropius" was a reference not to the famous Bauhaus architect but his daughter, Manon Gropius. She's notable almost entirely because of a violin concerto written by Alban Berg after her death, dedicated to "the memory of an angel".
This composition is unique because its intent was to reconcile the principles of diatonicism and dodecaphony: basically colorful chromatic notes versus atonality where black and white notes are completely equal (or in other words, grey).
Reconciling black, white and grey... sounds topical for BW, doesn't it? And just up Masuda's alley as a composer.
But now that I've heard the Masonic interpretation, I can't help but wonder if the architectural reference was correct. Guess we'll never know without asking Masuda himself.
