>>53469901Guzma's relationships with other characters: Stupidly loyal to actual villain Lusamine, who uses him and Team Skull as her secret enforcers and uses them to steal Pokemon for her collection. Jumps into a goddamn wormhole with a “Yes ma’am” for her because she was the first adult to give him the respect he felt he deserved. Antagonistic to the region’s Professor Kukui, describing them both as “former rejects who couldn’t become Captains” (the equivalent of gym leaders.) Thinks Kukui founding a League in Alola is pointless because everyone knows Guzma is the strongest already (lol). Wants to win the inaugural Alola League specifically to crush his dreams in the anime, because Guzma’s a dick. Frequently thought of as childhood friends like Ash and his rotating cast of journeying companions. Former pupil of his home island's Kahuna, Hala, who he insults and threatens to beat down, but also still recognizes as his master. Guzma returns to his training in the postgame to atone. Important one in the manga, Hau, the player's rival. Hau is Hala's grandson and Guzma talks to him about the expectations and pressures in Alola and doesn't want Hau to become like him. Ends up working with Hau at a cafe in the manga. And you, the player character. Guzma wants to beat you and develops a grudging respect for you, giving you his childhood lucky charm, having his mom give you the Swagger TM, and being happy to partner with you for double battles at the game's version of the Battle Tower in the postgame.
Lastly dude's just funny. The first line he says in the game is "Greetings, cowering public!" He calls himself destruction in human form, big bad Guzma, and you and Lillie coming to rescue Lusamine and him from Ultraspace earns you the “Y’all are stupid!” line, and he has great facial expressions. He looks absolutely unhinged at how happy he is to battle Hau and needlessly shoves Lillie aside in a cutscene, which rules.
