>>53446653It's (most likely) real but in order to have it occur the most likely cause is using a pokemon GO spoofing app when you connect to SV. Matthewcbayer is known to have been using that app when it happened, and the majority of cases reported involve the pokemon GO connection being used at some point. The "it happened to me but i didn't do anything specific" people don't provide enough information, and its possible those people could be bandwagoning, we don't know. Only Matthewcbayer has provided photo/video evidence, and any person who provided a detailed description of what happened had connected to GO. No one has managed to recreate the corruption by legitimate means, the only way we know how to duplicate it is by inserting really poorly made hacks into your game, saving and quitting, and trying to turn it back on.
If TPCi or Niantic had identified a cause they would just tell people to stop doing that until the patch, they wouldn't just let people keep deleting their saves. So it's either that they still haven't identified a cause after two weeks, or the cause is connecting to the pokemon GO spoofing app which they will NOT comment on. Not only would they not want to reference the app if at all possible, they also don't want to go blaming the people affected for causing this to themselves.
