BDSP was instead a spinoff game that tried to have its cake and eat it too by both being a "faithful remake" and also updating the game to 3d. Hence you ended up with the ugly artstyle that tried to mimic the 2d overworld sprites but in 3d, 360 degree movement in a game designed for 8 directions (making some parts where precise movement is required a pain), and always-on xp share without adjusting NPC levels.
Plus it's widely accepted that Platinum improved a lot over the base DP so people were expecting those improvements to be included in the remakes, yet they didn't.
