You could do that with disassembly of Red/Blue. There is a learning barrier if you've never worked with it before, however.

Probably a failsafe to prevent feelbads. Any other legendary is obtainable from friends or another playthrough.

Is this game joking? Not even radred was this punishing. You can't even reset your EVs by this point in the game, so what you just get your ass beat? You can't avoid every single encounter and every single trainer battle until you get to the EV training house, so even with autistic preparation you will never have an optimized EV spread for the first gym. And you are rocking vanilla learnsets and the first 2 fucking route encounters are all ice pokemon which have garbage ass stats, because the mons weren't really changed at all in this hack. Amazing game design.

Really can't stand the "difficult" romhacks for this reason, the difficulty curve is retarded and they're too focused on minmaxing to let the player have a fun but challenging experience.
They should be balanced, at least in my opinion around the idea that someone will actually just play the game and not minmax all their EVs for every fight. With the challenge designed around the idea that you would be rewarded for minmaxing with an overall easier (but still challenging) experience, and this would make you WANT to minmax, but if you don't want to minmax you can still pull through without having to do any cheesy bullshit.

Is it really, really that hard to make abilities interesting enough to check in on them, but not so critical you have to consult extra documentation? I just want a hack where I actually look at my pokemon's summary card more than just when I first catch it to see IVs and nature. I don't need Exceeded levels of pollution, and I don't need everything to have intimidate. Just nice, fun abilities that work well with the pokemon that has it.
I still can't believe swift swim not only exists, but is so widely distributed. Who the hell thought "yeah it's raining, these boys be swimming if it ever rains!"

I personally miss when abilities were mostly minor, just felt like a sorta bonus on top of what the pokemon does instead of the end all and be all of the pokemon.
Nowadays every new pokemon gets a special snowflake ability that completely defines how the pokemon is used and it's all a bit like, idk, yu-gi-oh-ish? I just miss when things were a bit more straightforward and not really as minmaxed feeling

So let's do a head count

Sturdy could be argued for, but I really don't know what was in their heads creating it - were they just sick of getting BTFO by two of the three starter types whenever they tried to field another Physically Defensive Ground / Rock type?
Weird issues and creative bankruptcy. "Yeah it's in the water, give it swift swim! Yeah it vaguely relates to a plant, give it Chlorophyll!"
They just didn't have the idea for Terrains in play yet, so weather had to bear the brunt. Imagine if Kyogre flooded the field, or Groudon cracked the earth and made it molten? Would make more sense than them summoning weather, to be honest.

Drought and Drizzle (which got retconned into normal hidden abilities, making Groudon and Kyogre less special), Air Lock started that trend of legendaries having abilities that are the same as normal ones with a different name. Wonder Guard is another example of a signature ability that completely defines a Pokemon.
Gen 3 had them, but they were reserved for special cases. It made those pokemon feel more special. Now everything has game-changing abilities and it just takes me out of the world a bit while also making special abilities feel less special.

I half agree in that tailored abilities make a pokemon have a specific purpose. They really force the ability design to be one that creates or reinforces the pokemon's designed-for niche.
Ultimately I don't think this is so bad. Many Pokemon have a niche due to their ability, but movepools are still typically robust enough that I've steamrolled all the way from gen 3 to gen 9 without ever even thinking about my Pokemon's abilities. Doesn't help even legendary, who SHOULD have an impactful ability, just got Pressure more often than not.

Yeah, looking at it now there's a ton. Clefairy had Magic Guard, Machop No Guard, etc.

My solution was the give each species an interesting ability unique to itself, and then a second ability to earn that is used in addition to the first. and then made it so you can earn that ability appearing in a common pool for specific other pokemon, who can take it as their secondary. So you could unlock something with a Magmar, and if that second ability was shown in Charizard's available pool, it could take it as well instead of it's normal secondary ability. Incentivizes trying out different Pokemon to find new abilities but makes each species a self-contained two-part synergy that wasn't pigeonholed by whatever core abilities I gave it.

To expound, this allowed me to filter a lot of the "generic abilities" like Keen Eye into that second pool, allowing you to select it only when you really need it (hint: you don't typically need it). The tinkering spot I'm in right now is to figure out how to limit switches between secondary abilities so you don't just slap on Insomnia whenever you enter a battle with a sleep abuser. It's a delicate balance because you're offering opt-ins to metagame your battles, and too many options does get you hard into Rock Paper Scissors mode.

By no means am I an expert spriter, but I've been trying to create a few new things to add to the FRLG tileset, and I'm working on a stone wall. However, I don't know what perspective to use when it's vertical. If I show the dark brick side, how do I go about transitioning it to be horizontal again? If I don't show it, I think it looks weird and doesn't really communicate the fact that it is a tall wall very well.

The right image is way more in line with what how the GBA games handle it, a sorta orthographic view without the funny perspective side angles of walls. You're comment about it not feeling like a tall wall is true though. The solution is the floor, not the wall itself. You should have darker floor tiles that represent a casted shadow that go next to the wall on one side. This is how the GBA games handle this scenario at least.

Well, my reasoning was that the perspective in FRLG tends to show the side a bit more, compared to the typically straight ahead view of RSE. But, you're right, its a bit funny looking. The shadows are probably my best bet. I'll try that and see how it goes.

Ended up simplifying this because I was obviously taking too many steps last time. Now you just press Start or select while in the clock menu and it goes into clock changing mode.
The only things I don't like about this are that I dont have an on-screen prompt to press a button to set clock (I could probably just dump that in the player's notebook though), and that the time resets to 10:00 whenever you go to set the time instead of staying at what your previous time was (This seems like it would be slightly complicated to implement because the time values and hand angles sorta get hard coded into place and I'd have to really mess with the function).
Either way, I'm really happy with how much control you have with this decompiled stuff. I know this is stupidly simple stuff that isnt really worth posting or talking about, but I've basically never touched romhacking before and yet with the little bit of C I know from arduino programming, I feel like literally anything can be accomplished with relative ease.

You mean like a label when you're viewing it telling you what button goes into clock set mode? Just tried to do that, took a bit of figuring out since I had to create a new window, and I actually have a question regarding that:
All Window's seem to have a '.baseBlock ", if my baseBlock is equal to the same thing as the "CONFIRM" text's window, the text of both windows seems to get scrambled together. I set the baseBlock to something arbitrarily different for now and it seemed to work, but I'm worried I might break something somewhere else so I'd like to know what this baseBlock variable even means, and how I know what I should be setting it to.

Also, do Start and Select have any standard icons used to represent them in these games? I feel like I've only ever seen them in text form. Just wondering because having the text only kinda contrasts with the Confirm button's "A" icon to look a bit cheap.

I've for sure seen the Select button for registered shortcuts in the bag - but that's not quite the same. Issue is it Start is really on the title screen. I'm sure it's in FRLG with all the tutorial text at the beginning - see if you can steal from one of those parts of that rom?

I am trying to create a new tileset in Pokeemerald. I have three things I want to put into this tileset, and they all have a different palette. So, I use tilemap studio to compress them and garble them up so I use less space, create all the palettes I need, and then I add the three palettes into porymap. I do this for all three palettes! Then, I combine all the images into one using paint dot net, but when I try to import the secondary tileset image into porymap, I get this error.

What am I doing wrong here?

Here's the tileset.

Since I made the post, I used graphicsgale to create palettes for each section of the tileset, and then loaded those into palettes 7,8, and 9 of the tileset on porymap. Then, I exported the tileset from porymap, and combined them using graphicsgale.
However, now it loads into porymap, but it only shows the right colors for the tiles that are a part of the palette in use when I exported the secondary tileset.
ie. if I exported the tileset while I was in palette 9, only things using palette 9 would show right, but everything else would use the wrong colors, even if I changed palettes
The tileset has 3 parts: the top half ends at the door mat(except for the rails), the bottom half, and then the rails found to the right of the map in the top part. I don't know why it isn't correctly using the palettes of the other parts of the tileset.

Sure! I got some help from someone else, so I didn't figure it out on my own, but here's how I've learned to go about doing this:

1) Create tilemap canvas in graphics gale
2) Convert tilemap image to 4bpp (16 colors)
3) Load palette of tiles you want to add
4) Load the image of the tiles & copy them in
etc) Repeat steps 3-4 for any other tiles you want to add
5) Save image & load in porymap

I believe baseBlock is the tileid at which the window's tiles are stored at in vram. You can use an emulator's tile viewer tool to figure out which parts of vram are free to use.

Emerald Cross is working on being the definitive Emerald QoL hack - has a huge options menu in-game you can toggle at any time. The lead prioritized the ability for a flashcart on actual hardware to be able to trade with vanilla games, so there's no adjustments to movepools or stats, only Pokemon up to gen 3 are present, but you can toggle things like the physical/special split (yes, toggle as in you can do a battle with the PSS, then the next battle without), a "catch em all" mode that adds a fair number of natdex pokemon to the game (again, toggleable anytime), and a shitload of UI customization you can turn on and off.
Basically, it's a giant QoL hack that you can at any time modify and try out features. And if you enable nothing, it's just vanilla emerald with an RTC patch and some bug fixes that still connects to vanilla games on physical hardware.
I don't know if any of that appeals to you specifically, but I've been enjoying the restraint the dev has shown by simply allowing players to build their own experience in-game using options menus.

I think having in game level caps is stupid. I'm all for the challenge of a good romhack, but limiting how people play is really dumb. It also ruins the entire game before the boss you are going to fight, because you can just grind up to level cap and then you have no worries and can just beat on pokemon without fear of overleveling the gym.

But agreed on level caps to specify a challenge - the more constraints you place on a challenge, the more specific solutions become. Pokemon has a few cute tricks, but there's a reason common strategies arise to beat gyms that are really just x6 boosts, status abuse, or AI manipulation (or perfect counter picks). As much as I hate that anon who posts it, Pokemon as it is is very rock-paper scissors in the early gens (and still somewhat in later ones).

I think self imposed level caps are fine, I just feel like ones baked into the game (like radical red) end up making all the content that aren't bosses worthless, because everyone just grinds or rare candies to the level cap for the gym boss so every miniboss, trainer, and grass encounter leading up to it isn't as strong.

Also there is some more "challenge" with a self imposed level cap, as you have to be careful to not overlevel, so you have to plan routes more efficiently, skip trainers, save things for later, etc. You lose all of that when the game caps the levels for you.

Not technically /rheg/ related, but has anyone else encountered tiny reflections with VBA? I thought I broke something in my hack but I loaded up the same file with no$GBA and the reflections were fine.
Thought maybe it was a VBA issue but google provides no records of this issue, which is weird because its pretty noticeable. I really wanna nail down the cause of the issue so I know its not something I did.

Wouldn't a more aggressive version of the BW exp scaling system alleviate the need for caps? Just reduce exp gain more and more as you approach / exceed the level of your opponents? That way you can over level and sweep but it takes an unreasonable amount of grinding most won't bother with, while also allowing you to train up new pokemon that you want to use against the next challenge to an adequate level faster.

There is a variety of challenge in Pokemon depending on what pokemon you use, what level they are, and their moves. Stat spread is arguably of more importance, so many abilities out there that will rarely see play because they ended up on a mon that can barely use it. I do agree that limiting a mon to one good set would be less than ideal, but sometimes, that one good set can be what separates the mon from others with similar typing or star spreads.

Romhacks are not as limited as you think. They can change as much or as little as they want.

I'm fucking tired of only the gameboy games getting romhacks man. When was the last time Gen 4 or 5 got anything good that wasn't a Drayano hack that is over 4+ years old at this point? Even if you count BB/VW2 Redux, that's still a Dray hack just tweaked to be a bit more in line with today's standards. And god forbid you want to play a gen 6 or 7 hack. Pokemon can now have two abilities. Each Core ability is restricted to a small group of pokemon, or just one species. Descriptor Abilities are available to a slightly larger group of pokemon, but generally are only available on Pokemon they make sense for.
>Unlocking
Abilities are made available by discovering new Pokemon species. For example, you unlock visibility of an ability for each of Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, and Venusaur. Abilities in a given family will typically be related / soft-linked.
Abilities revealed by a single pokemon are revealed for ALL it could be unlocked for
Core abilities must be purchased on any given Pokemon using Mastery (my stand-in for EVs), must be purchased on ANY individual that wants to use the abilities
Descriptors only need to be bought once on any pokemon again with Mastery, and are then unlocked for all pokemon in the descriptor's available pool.
Core abilities are locked once purchased, but can be reset by spending mastery (basically allowing reskilling of a pokemon after you've had a good amount of time with it).
Thoughts? I think this allows species to remain unique, incentivizes filling out the Pokedex, and rewards the player for investing time into a single Pokemon without resorting to gimmicky items like an ability capsule.
this is part of an ongoing project to make it so you can make any Pokemon you catch battle-ready, without needing to worry about finding optimal natures or IVs. I won't eat up this post discussing what else in changing, but that's just context for why I'm tooling this system so much

The UV mapping is barely existing and clearly not designed to just be a scrolling texture.
Pic related is me trying to use Vertex Position as UV, which look better but still far away from how it look in-game.
I'm not worried about the flame effect itself, there is a bunch of displacement maps and shit in Ponyta's texture that I haven't bothered with yet, but it's the UV mapping that's blocking everything: the base of every flame is clearly staying yellow, so that "this is the base of the flame" data must be fucking somewhere.

Why do so many hacks nowadays go out of their way to prevent repel manipulation for encounters? Unbound only has 1 mon in the entire game that can be caught this way and Radred has at most 3. Every other grass area in these games has the same exact levels for all the mons in the area. Feels lame.

I understand wanting to make nuzlockes more random, but you could have still have that while allowing repel manip. Like instead of having 1 pokemon on a route be 1 level higher than the rest, why not 4 of the 9-10 mons all can be caught 1 level higher? That way you still get the randomness for nuzlockers, but still give nuzlockers a bit more variety in how they play?

Maybe the nuzlocker really wants a specific encounter on that route with 4 mon that can be manipulated, but the other 3 in that pool kind of suck for his team composition and he'd be better off not manipping so he has a chance at getting a better encounter even if it's not the one he really wants. So now there is decision to be made. Does he risk the 1 out of 4 chance to get the mon he wants or does want a more guaranteed useful encounter so takes the 6 out of 10 (3/5) chance? Nope, all of that is thrown out the window. All mons on all routes all share the same level, deal with it. LOL

Maybe for a normalfag that hasn't played pokemon in 2 decades. For most people who are fans of this game that go out of their way to seek out and emulate the games and play hacks of them, I'd assume at least half of the playerbase knows about it and I'd assume most hack creators are aware of it (especially difficulty type hacks as encounters are most important here). Even happens in Blaze Black 2 redux, though I don't know if it happens in the normal version of Blaze Black 2. Every single encounter are all the same levels. It just feels shitty.

Most players know about the mechanic of repels blocking lower leveled Pokemon, yes.
But I can guarantee you that only small percentage of romhack players are familiar enough with the idea of repel manipulation to actively go out of their way to do it, let alone for the purpose of nuzlocking.
The reason the mechanic is absent from so many hacks is simply because it's barely ever talked about by anyone, so very few people are familiar enough with it to consider it as a factor when designing encounters.

Adding snowy mountains to hoenn already feels like turning things into that annoying later gen situation where the regions have no climate identity. But I'm also more of a purist who think, as the new games got worse, I'd rather the older games stay as close to how they were in spirit as possible. Going too far at all on certain things feels too much like a re-imagining instead of fleshing out.
Something I've been struggling with myself trying to make a version of Emerald that can be 100%'d without any connectivity is adding new content (adding new areas to Hoenn to fit the missing Pokemon feels inevitable), without remotely changing up the game feel.
I feel the key to any change, even large scale changes like you're suggesting, is to almost make them invisible, implement them so naturally / in-line with the existing parts of the game that they feel like they were there the whole time.

Yeah, the motivation to update Hoenn came from my issues with attenpting to redistribute all national pokemon in vanilla Emerald. My two biggest issues became the overabundance of common pokemon in starter routes (holy FUCK every time I play a QoL or difficulty hack, I'm swarmed with bugs), and the absolute desert of the ocean routes. Just dumping all the water types wherever you like is boring, loading shoal cave with... what, 8-10 ice type families? Is boring. So that's why I'm at least trying to expand , and honestly just adding a snowy peak actually is very realistic. Have you seen the island of Hawaii? It has 8 of all 13 global climates present, leading to a very diverse island.
Honestly, adding a snow peak is the LEAST intrusive way to bring ice types in - as opposed to a deep cave, or as some hacks do it, just making a magical ice island.

Fair enough. I entertained the idea of "Safaris" (name pending) being ways that the story could organically reward the player in places vanilla didn't (at least, not for a long while). For example, Cpt. Stern offering to take you on a fishing trip out to one of the late sea routes, and couple that with giving you the good rod so you have access to some fish in the route, but not all. I had a similar idea for a guy in Fallarbor to help you climb the frozen meteor falls to get at select ice Pokemon after doing him a favor (access to the ice area is meant to occur after Surf is learned).
You could also lock such things the way Gen 1 did - have Birch's aides throughout the region, and if you've caught enough species, you get taken on research trips further into the game ahead of schedule.
It just seems a better alternative than just slamming the Safari Zone full of Pokemon, I never really cared for the Zone that much and always felt it was a band-aid in later gens when they wanted to have a species but couldn't justify its presence.

You could just have May do that for you, or even just have Birch roaming around the region. Either one fits their character, I think.
But as for unlocking the safaris, there's no reason why you can't gate them behind both Pokedex completion and a sidequest. Or have the dex completion one be a freebie that only activates once and have the permanent one offered by a sidequest that can be completed a little bit later on.

I tried to more closely capture the geography of Kyushu, but I got a little creative with the islands - you may recognize the southern of the two major islands if you know your American History. I will most likely change that significantly as the reference is a bit too direct.
Sparknotes on plot changes:

>Ancestral humans' will manifested and was heard by Jirachi in Deep Space, who called upon meteors to strike the ancestral dens of Groudon and Kyogre
>Fighting ceased, and Jirachi imbued Rayquaza with power as lord of the skies to ensure things don't get that bad again.
So now, we have a crater at Meteor Falls and in the center of the northeast island.
Otherwise:

>Center of the map is dominated by a larger Mt Pyre, where it is perpetually desert and sandy mountain paths

As I expected on all fronts. I agree that following GFs model of just leaving things as-is keeps homework for games low if you're a series veteran. I personally struggle with process changes after years of learning the process, and I view Pokemon type changes the same way. Having to ask "wait, isn't Gardevoir fairy-type now?" is already pretty annoying, a lot of fan additions are a touch fanfic.

If you make your hack with something that allows you to see the typings in battle (like you can with CFRU), I don't see why it's a bad thing as long as you aren't going overboard. What I dislike most is when a creator tries to reenvision damn near the entire pokedex with new types, new abilities, new stats, new learnsets, etc. It feels like way too much and means you need to constantly have some documentation open while playing. At that point, just make a fakemon game because that's clearly what you want to do.

Autism ensued for weeks in this general screeching for one side or the other (and notably 1-2 individuals that has distinct posting styles) and I honestly think that's what put it on a soft hiatus for 2-3 weeks near the beginning of the year. Just look up what others have to say elsewhere, we don't need these debates to come around again because everyone is too autistic to be okay talking about it. I say that lovingly, and with full concern for the wellbeing of this thread (which has gone quite civilly so far)

Based, but they should have just made a game in their own engine at that point. I'm pretty sure you can just use cheat engine or something on Essentials. Or they could have just no added speed up options to Essentials and maybe 10 people would have even done it themselves.

I made a Platinum hack with new maps, trainers, writing--basically an actual whole new game.
But I quit after making the first gym/dungeon. Making a game isn't worth the effort since no one will ever play it. I know this because I've finished several hacks in the past and they barely get attention. Yet "difficulty" hacks get everything.
Making a hack is a fucking full time job, and on top of doing it for free you don't even get any fucking players.

Play Touhou Puppet Dance Performance. It's by the person who created Touhoumon. Pretty much I assume they gave up on their own room hack after they realized it's shit and they when ahead and made their own Pokemon engine. It has its own region that opens up a lot pretty early in the game. All Touhoumon games are just Kanto or Hoenn with Touhou characters.

A lot of communities have people that will do it for free. Just finish your hack then put out a request for a musician. You'll usually get someone who's passionate in the pile of replies - everyone loves to throw their portion into projects that are already almost done, rather than pledging to an IP hack that may not be completed.

Weather proposal (gen 3)
Instead of vanilla weather, now:
>Sun is default if daytime, enabling Chlorophyll and friends.
>If Night, grass types have lower speed
>Cloudy conditions are neutral, providing no particular benefit to any type
>Rain now reduces fire-type damage and deals chip damage to Fire types (I want to add damage to ground/rock types but it feels too autistically tied to the type system as a mechanic rather than a concept)
>Intense sun now reduces water-type damage and deals chip damage to Ice and Grass Types, still offers sun benefits to grass types.
>Sandstorm deals chips damage to and reduces the speed of all non-Ground/Rock/Steel types

I think there a pretty balanced system. I intend to use it as a backbone to rework weather to be a detriment, and make Pokemon's abilities the way to turn that weather to their advantage (your Chlorophyll, Swift Swim, etc). Did I break anything going this route?

This system is meant to partner with the Ability system to make it so abilities I design and implement can directly serve as benefits for curating specific weather. This baseline is inherently meant to hurt pokemon and provide no real benefit, because inclement weather should naturally make most tasks MORE difficult unless a pokemon is well-suited to it.
If you're looking for Hail's defense boosting or something similar, that will now be a conscious choice in the ability system rather than mostly arbitrary buffs/needs that they can't even keep consistent for more than a couple gens.
The upswing is this allows me to pull out busted shit like Sand Veil and Snow Cloak and give more useful abilities more curated for the pokemon receiving them, without having secret numbers adjustments behind the scene.

Have you READ how weather works? This is the most pared down, transparent implementation. Hot as fuck? Water has a hard time and plants/ice start to wilt and melt. Rainy? Fire has a hard time. Sand-fucking-storm? Hurts your pokemon and encumbers them
These are simple sentences with clear cause and effect. I get Pokemon games have the shittiest stickiness when it comes to updating mechanics, but believing weather as-implemented in 2003 was not simultaneously useless and busted is a poor outlook.

I'm curious what has you so tore up about "hurting" particular types? You haven't even seen how snow impacts the ability pool now, not have you seen how common Harsh Sun even is with the changes I made to separate it from the Grass Type's favored "Normal Sun/Day". Further, this isn't about what Types "Need", this is about weather. Weather that interrupts, changes the flow, and makes an impact, rather than just being a buff you summon in online battles.
And again, I don't think you're reading what I'm up to here - weather is the downside to Abilities' upsides. One half of the equation is missing. So instead of telling me what I stripped out (which I'm highly aware of) why not explain why you think specific aspects are worth keeping, aside from "these are colloquially known as weaker types, you can't modify their standing anywhere but up or else you're HURTING them!"
I'm curious what you would wrap back in. If my changes are so retarded, what are some actually useful things to bring back that I've cut?

My end goal is to have living weather rather than route-gated weather, and the way weather is currently built (either VERY specifically-located or summoned at-will) works just fine for the laundry list of changes vanilla weather brings. This is the main focus of this change. Sand and Snow will still be in a 2-3 route area, but the ability for any given route to spontaneously be a cakewalk for one of the three starter types depending on weather dicerolls seems foolish. I have no objection to weather making things HARDER as you can just wait it out if you're not feeling it, but I feel buffs should be conscious choices by the player, not outcomes of the environment. That's how I want the game to be. I suppose that's the very root - removal of arbitrary type buffs tied to a handful of weather patterns. My system maybe has some issues to iron out to achieve this goal completely, but I'm working on it. Sand in particular was something I was unsure about.

This is all I'm really after. Remove the huge benefit, keep the complication / potential difficulty. This allows weather to be an obstacle and something you'll need to interact with, instead of a lucky coin-flip you won with your team composition. It is not perfect, but I firmly believe this is the way I will achieve weather actually being engaging for once in pokemon rather than just an extra set of textboxes in the battle screen.

Yeah, that's the dragon I'm chasing here. I think I just drilled too deep trying to make conditions more than what they are - random chance modifications to gameplay. Trying to pull benefits from weather was an attempt to make it so players needed to consciously try to build for specific weathers to actually be advantaged by them - making it so planning for the worst worked to their benefit. But if it's random chance, that's inherently flawed as I'm asking players to invest time a resources to overcome not only something that happens randomly, but has a nonzero chance of not happening at all in a given playthrough.
Hence why I need to think on it. I still really dislike the idea of "it rained today, therefore if you're running fire types it's a real shit show", but vanilla did fine with rain routes. So maybe it's not so bad as-is.

So I fucked up and forgot to copy my Pokemon with PKSM before transferring them
How do I replicate them to the base game 1:1? I can't see explicit IV/EV stats on Pokemon Home and I don't see how I can change certain details (like Characteristics, etc.) in PKSM
Anyone willing to help me figure this out?

They did a purge of inactive users a few months ago. I don't know if that's because they deleted it since I never talked in there. I have a feeling they did delete the server because it was filled with people screeching "nigger" and Discord started cracking down on "hate speech". People definitely filed reports when they got their jimmies rustled, because several people got their accounts deleted by Discord at least once.

Also, a while back someone posted a "psychoanalysis" of the server here on 4chan basically equating /rheg/ to a bunch of mentally ill kids at a tard wrangling home because several of the members had severe physical and mental disabilities.

Some of these are toggleable, and will be marked with (t) in those scenarios. Toggle types come with a sprite change so it's obvious what you're facing in battle. There are countless top tier essentials fangames like Reborn, Rejuvenation, Desolation, Uranium, Insurgence, Xenoverse, RD. ALl of which still have a sizable community to this day.
As for romhacks, we have Clover, Unbound, and a about a trillion firered / emerald enhancement hacks / edits that doesn't take place in an original region.

Yeah I'm thinking essentials takes the W here.

Just apply route specific weather patterns, don't remake the wheel. You end up removing the efficiency and rarity of some cool abilities that way. I do think the idea of rain chipping away at Fire Pokémon is cool. You could go the Mystery Dungeon route and make Cloudy skies reduce power of every move except Normal-type moves. That would be neat.

I don't need it to be easy, just not kaizo levels of challenge. My favorite things about these hacks are the quality of life. Being able to see what my mon's movepool is in game, being able to see types in battle, having dexnav, having a lot of generations of mons to catch, running smoothly, multiple key item selection, infinite repel and timechanger, showing nature and IVs and having a way to scan EVs, etc. All of that is very nice and while some hacks have 1 or 2 of those things, no hack has all of those things like these two do.

Perfect hack for me would be Drayano's new SGSS v2 with RadRed/Unbound levels of QoL.

A good puzzle can be solved as quickly as the player can figure it out.

If my foes use perfect EV/IV mons, make it quick to get EVs/IVs.

Generate Pokemon with perfect IVs by default, add a NPC who can set my speed or attack or both to 1 if desired for hyper autistic min-maxing (trick room etc)

And let me buy cheap Vitamins that boost my EVs by 1 at a time without any cap other than the 252 cap, and ensure multiples of these vitamins can be used at once.

Finally add a move tutor who can teach your pokemon anything it can learn via level up, tutor, or egg move.

And remove level from stat calculation, replace a Pokemon's level with 50.

Perfect. A pokemon ready for the real fights. How many seconds did that take?

It was faster than giving your Starter Pokemon's recently hatched child with the desired Egg Move a macho brace, EV grinding while counting the kills on wild encounters or against a harmless EV grinding trainer, giving your Pokemon EXP candies or lv100 Memento Blissey grinding...

Come on. We're not all kids with infinite free time. Don't take baby steps towards speed. Embrace speed like my next Pokemon game does.
