The dex cut really made me hate this thing. It's one of the 50ish pokemon guaranteed to always eat up a roster slot even though it's completely worthless, just because its prevo is one of the developers' favorite mon

Its just a solid b-tier team filler.
Not bad at anything, can use all the Water HMs (in gens where those exist), expansive movepool. 2 good abilities.
Generally balanced stats across the board, not exceptional, but not weak anywhere either.

Damp is fucking bad ability. It also make no sense on Golduck, especialy as its main ability.
Would it be usefull if it changed all used normal moves to water?
It should have got serene grace instead anyway as it learns quite a few moves with secondary effects and it would fit for it pokedex entries

There's no special big dick points for using Pokemon with bigger BST or better movepool. The will to use Golduck IS the reason to use it. And it's more important than some vague numbers.

Golduck is one of my favorite Pokemon, design-wise. It does what I think all the best Pokemon designs do- be abstractions of real animals, kaiju, and yokai without looking too much like what they're based on.
