What's your opinion on "Mega Evolutions"?

Fake and gay or cool?

Personally I think it ruined a lot of gen1 pokemon suddenly having a mega evolution

Better than any of the gimmicks that came after them. It was cool to see older pokemon get new forms, they were certainly more exciting than the rest of the gimmicks.
I've soured on Megas over time, though.
There are still some I like, but I feel like many of them actively make the design of the pokemon worse, some lose the original appeal entirely. There are a handful I like, but despite being a cool idea, majority of Mega pokemon are worse designs. I do think it was unfortunate they were under utilised in-game during gen 6, both in XY and ORAS, since they were the only generational gimmick I've even slightly cared for.

The only 'mons that didn't deserve Megas are the legendaries. Like, did Mewtwo or Rayquaza really need a power boost?

Honestly the "gimmick" should return.
There's no excuse for it to be region locked.
Some megas should be tuned down to regular evolutions (if the base isn't a 3rd stage mon or it wouldn't be broken by eviolite).
Like Houndoom getting an evo with stat parity with Arcanine (focused on SpA) wpuld be cool.
Mawhile and Sableye getting a regular evo would be better.
On the other hand stuff like Beedril/Butterfree/Pidgeot etc. shoddy thurd stage mons getting Megas was a blessing.
GF can sporadically trickle them down as researcher based trainers drop them slowly in each region (people figuring out how to create mega stones/keystones without giant sacrificial superweapons).

They suck. Tera and move styles are the only good battle gimmicks. Everything else is just an excuse for shillmons to get more merchandise.

Shitmon gets a substantial buff, goes from being a joke to being worshiped like a legendary, and gets constant merch and exposure in other parts of the franchise even if Megas leave the main series

Shitmon stays a shitmon but gains a new family member that either overshadows it making the original obsolete, or is just a shit as it original (making the overall family even more of a laughing stock).

Out of everything you listed only the ones from PLA are actual regional evolutions, and even those won't be 'regional' anymore if they put their evo items in the current games. Just say cross-gen next time.
