The only trios with no redeemable starters are Gens 5, 8 and 9. Even the "bad" ones have at least one decent starter.

I gave myself the policy of picking snivy and if it wasn't female I'd box it and catch lillipup as my starter and cheren would retain a type advantage

Yeah, I usually just use the pokemon I like and I'm not crazy about any of the starters. They tend to make the game easier than it already is too

Never during the main story.
Also not using your starter against your rival starter would feel really strange to me.
But now that we have DLCs instead of a third game, I'll likely do it to not faceroll everything and replace all six mons with a new team.

I just consulted a pokedex weight chart, the largest pokemon I could bench is actually the mega version of my starter. So yes, I could bench him.

Constantly ever since SM, having played since Gen1 and having frequently replayed the old games over the years i gotten my fill of running the games with them and just find them more constraining for teams more then anything since i just end up planning around them as a starting point instead of working from nothing when deciding what i wanna use, i usually pick my starter so the rival gets something i think will suit them instead.

We've all gotta start somewhere. I remember the first time I picked up a Pokemon it was an entire Stoutland, but I wouldn't work myself up to a Salamence, Druddigon, and finally a Hydregion if I didn't keep at it. Geodude is a lifter's best friend, pick several of him up and eat Exeggcutes and Combusken daily, avoid eating any foods made out of Sunkern and Caterpie, make sure to get plenty of water and rest, simple as.

Only if I'm doing a mono-type run and non of the starters fit it, and then by rules I must place them in the pc once I catch one of that type.

Let me tell you, HG with psychic types was a *wild ride* because my first psychics were unown + slowpoke, and I had to test on wild pokemon AGES with 5 unown to find ones that stood a CHANCE against Bugsy.
