I don't get the point of these. What was wrong with Vine Whip and Absorb for early Grass-type moves? Fire and water types didn't get new 40 BP moves in these gens either.

Consistency was never really an issue.
Absorb heals to make up for its low BP.
Bubble was still 20 BP in gen 4 with Piplup.
Ember can still burn, but water gun and all of those grass moves have no secondary effect.
Tackle went through several changes (inaccuracy and two BP changes).
Vine Whip used to be 35 BP.

It's good that Grass has diversity when the others are just shooting some of their respective elements.

Plus Vine Whip is fucking boring, Chespin having it makes no sense since not every kind of foliage has vines.

Fire is also a significantly rarer type than either Grass or Water, so Ember having a small burn chance isn’t a big deal.
Bubble had speed reduction effect.
Branch Poke and Leafage better symbolize what certain Grass Pokémon can do, so I am fine with more diversity.
Water Gun has also pretty much supplanted Bubble as the go to move for Water.
I am fine with more diversity for the other types too. Give Fire a non-burn damage move.
