It also had storage/organization features (admittedly superseded by Home), the minigames, a more competitive minded version of the campaign with a reward at the end (the Gym Leader castle), and the various challenge cups.
An updated version of Stadium could also be a competitive battling platform if they wanted it to be. Imagine having something like the Pokemon World Tournament in Switch Stadium, with the ability to download new tournaments, watch replays of actual competitive battles at various Nationals/Worlds tournaments and even the ability to enter yourself in mock versions of those tournaments as a competitor.
