Opinions please. It's been almost 30 years and I really don't recall anything about these games. 3DS eshop is closing down tomorrow. I already own Red. Does Yellow do anything besides "Red/Blue but animu"? And if I snag Crystal, do I really need Silver? Or is all this gaslighting into last minute spending, and we think they'll show up on Switch at some point?

Yellow is RB but anime, getting all three starters by the 3rd badge, and with harder bosses (with actual human-picked movesets as opposed to the level up moves as it is in RB). The version of Crystal on the shop can net you Celebi while GS cannot, and the only downside I recall compared to GS is that Ho-oh is harder to get and you cannot get it or Lugia's signature moves, as they are both too high leveled. No need to double dip on either. Only a matter of time before they're on the Switch, but that depends on how you want to play them and if you care enough to not have them tied to your Switch online subscription.

You can get all three starters without starting new save files.

Crystal doesn't have the Vulpix, Mankey, Mareep, and Remoraid lines, including Girafarig. Silver doesn't have the Mankey line. It's also a moot point because you can't trade Pokemon between VC titles on the same system, you need another 3DS in local play to do it. There's no wifi trading either, despite GSC being set up to enable it. Perhaps there's a way to create a remote local network or something? I dunno.

That thought hadn't even crossed my mind. Why can't they just sell the games, greedy fucks.

More confounding still is that it does not have to be only one or the other, either. You can make a pseudo-Xbox gamepass of it and make the whole library available with the subscription while then charging MORE for a lasting subscription-free purchase. The number of people who would stop subscribing on account of "securing" their preferred games is too small to consider.
