I feel like some of unbounds humor is good, but I was immediately turned off the game by the "dude 420 blaze it" gym leader. How did they decide to use their worst joke as their first joke? It made me quit playing for a while until I decided to give it a second try.

I enjoyed playing through it 3 times and not once did I pay attention to nature/IVs, maybe you should try it sometime. Also complaining about it for the starter is funny since it eventually becomes so strong that even 0x6 IVs wouldn't stop it from being good.

Honestly you could just figure it out from the seething over the fighting gym. I didn't even realize anyone could have had difficulty with that fight, and he got through Rejuvenation just fine (I think? I'll totally admit the gym gave me a bit of trouble the first time around, but it's definitely not THAT bad, especially compared to something like rejuvenation where some fights are ridiculously stacked even compared to reborn

I don't know which year it was from but I would have to guess it's maybe a year or two ahead of the 2009 public release. What little of South Rijon has been coded can be seen in this build.
