I agree that the animations don't really do much special (though that could be said for literally the entire game), and more importantly that theyre often not pushed as far as they could be. But, what little there is, shows that the future mons usually do have move moving parts to their designs, and as a result, at least a lot more potential for interesting animations.
Jugulis is a great example. It's arms are actually entirely detatched from the main body. The animations for it in SV don't really do much with that tough, they just kind of leave the body slightly, but I could easily see something cool with that design quality in mind. Imagine the looping motions that Magneton's heads make in the Stadium games, or maybe sending the heads out to shoot lasers much closer to the foe, for example. Not utilized in game, but the designs would at least allow for it.
