>>53536862Okay, kinda over-populated last i checked (which was Gen7, so that could definitely have changed) but that is more a reflection of Pokémon usually being based on IRL things and like it or not the Earth is a Water World where effectively all life revolves around water. Have less of a issue then Grass Pokémon in the "STARTER IS THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS" mentality, especially in the HM games where there are many Water HMs so you are kinda pushed to have at least one no matter what.
Honestly i kinda feel like Water Pokémon are more "Normal Pokémon" then actual Normal Pokémon, because as time gone on Normal Pokémon seem to get the type to deliberately make them shittier to compensate for some kind of gimmick (that may already be making them shitty).
TL;DR: Basic, More Normal then Normal is.
