They all but do though. They literally own the copyright to every single monster. Pokemon cannot do shit without their permission.

The Pokemon Company and ownership of Pokemon is split three ways between Game Freak, Creatures inc, and Nintendo. So Nintendo owns ~33% of Pokemon, so they do technically own at least some of the series.

You're getting copyright mixed up with trademark.
The copyright for Pokemon is split between Creatures, Game Freak and Nintendo.
However, Nintendo fully owns the all trademarks. Nintendo of America owns the name Pokemon. Game Freak can't do shit without Nintendo's permission.
