You either brought your mega to a bad matchup, or did bring it; in both cases you were at a disadvantage before the game even started. Furthermore, because there were so few megas, and even fewer good ones, it SUPER over centralized the meta game. The universality of Z moves was a step in the right direction, and the universality and dynamic nature of Dynamax and Terastalization were even better. They now, correctly, understand that the battle gimmick needs to be something anything can do and can be picked on the fly, based on the current battle conditions.
