Crystal was the last game I truly enjoyed. When Ruby and Sapphire came out, every kid in my class was spouting "pokemon is not cool anymore". I didn't think much of it, but the thing is, almost none of my classmates had a GBA, and the few that had it, didn't have the new pokemon games. Later that year, during vacations, I found out that my cousin had Sapphire, so I got out my GBC with Silver to trade with him, but I couldn't, as you know. My cousin had the GBA link cable, which was incompatible with the GBC. Still, trading was impossible even if I had a GBA to play Silver on. Imagine my disappointment when I found out about the original dexit. Worse still, getting good Pokemon for link battles was much worse in the new games, so in case I could find any kid that didn't think Pokemon wasn't cool anymore, and he'd be willing to fight, I would have a miserable time getting good Pokemon. Emerald, which was basically the same game as Ruby and Sapphire, did little to fix these issues. Strike 1.
In order to """fix"""" this fuckup, the lazy cashgrabs known as Firered and Leafgreen were released, but they used the miserable gen 3 engine, as expected. Playing through these just made you wish you were playing the originals instead. Strike 2.
Then came Diamond and Pearl. I don't know who thought releasing those slogs was a good idea. Moving is slow, menus are slow, battles are slow, the fucking lifebars are slow, saving is fucking eternal. I played Diamond for like a gym. Playing through this and thinking I couldn't take it anymore, I was checking my PC to get a Psyduck I caught earlier, only to find out that these games have a glitch where the Pokemon on your PC can disappear for no reason. The Psyduck was nowhere to be found. Strike 3.
