I could probably win a regional, and probably come in 4th or so during the world cup. With there was no Takuto majority of trainers in the anime don't have good team comps nor do they use TMS if you haven't noticed.

Since I’m OP, I automatically all the leagues. But in actuality, it would depend on which region im competing in. I think of the league similar to the Olympic trials that every country in the world has. If my region is known for basically creating the equivalent of Olympic champions, it would be much harder for me to win it all versus winning in a region where people really don’t train.

Paldea League is a non-starter at least because i would keep answering i was there for fun for one thing since i would likely just approach it as a hobbyist even if i had special protag powers and could stomp every trainer, Honestly i think i would probably just be a grass roots trainer who make some psychotic statement of how much i love my pet Pokémon and then get my asskicked by 10 year olds supergeniuses while doing my day job rather then a full time trainer.

It's hard to say how pokemon strength works. Ash's non-evolved pokemon defeat higher evolution mons all the time.
I think the hardest part would be getting your pokemon to the standard needed by the time the league rolled around.
As long as no one uses a Darkrai, building a meta team shouldn't be too hard.

The 4th gen league played very much like that game in many regards, so I think it's possible to win.

Grind EVs first and formost until maxed, then spend all day for the entire season battling pokemon outside of gym battles to maximize xp, assuming it works like that. If it doesn't, then it's a coinflip. Is raising a team of pokemon expensive? Food? Healing? Travel?

If we are using the Pokémon world, healing and shelter at Pokémon centers is free for all trainers which have food. Travel is just walking or your pokemon. I imagine you make money doing odd jobs or winning battles wherever you go

It would be interesting if the league had a rank for trainers participating and gave them a stipend based on their rank to encourage them to battle and get stronger.
If you sit around and don't battle, your ELO would drop over time and you would get less cash each paycheck. So you'd have to keep looking for battles and getting stronger.

Maybe the lifespan of the Pokemon themselves could be a great equalizer of sorts, but generally speaking it seems Pokemon media seems to depict most Pokemon as having competitive lifespans at least equal to that of human beings (see: most Champions have their starter as their ace).

If you don't have protagonist powers, you won't have any master balls. You won't have a chance to save and reset so you would be lucky to catch a legendary. You probably won't be gifted items by random NPCs. You probably won't be able to rematch opponents after losing to them once.

Assuming we're dropped into the pokemon world as-is, I think meta-knowledge is a pretty significant advantage, even just understanding what pokemon are potentially OP and what strategies are hard to counter. You don't even need to catch legendaries or "rare" pokemon when you know stuff like Moody exists.

The hardest part would be actually raising a team, because figuring out IVs and natures probably isn't as simple as just looking at a summary screen (and a 6iv ditto for breeding isn't just gonna fall out of the sky like it does from wonder trades). But knowing this fact, 99% of other trainers probably aren't going to have amazing IVs either, and in that case the overall impact of IVs isn't going to be as significant as EV training, which should be easy enough. Plus all the other stuff that's optional in the games like feeding, interacting with and taking care of your pokemon, since it's a living creature and not just a stat block.

Realistically with meta knowledge and dedicating full-time to this, I think semi-finalist or even finalist/champion is reasonable if you have like a year to prepare.

In games, you don't need to eat, you don't need to sleep, no laundries, no jobs, no rest between towns and routes, and the level scaling is done in order to make you level up faster.
In real Pokemon world, you have a chance to meet a wild level 50 Pidgeot in route 1, or a trainer with level 70 Salamance in the second route. Also the money you earn is through betting in Pokemon battles. You sure as hell aren't beating a veteran trainer off the bat. If you think a year is nearly enough to be a contender, you need to stop being autistic.

Also, it's not really explicit but Ash literally had a professional GYM leader (Brock) helping him with orientation, food routines and training during Ash's first 4 regions.
It's super sugarcoated in the anime but Ash had a literal pro guiding him until he was able to travel alone.
Good luck getting anywhere without a guy like Brock to help you out in a realistic PokeWorld

And that's exactly my point, in-game you can beat the entire gym challenge, save the world and become the regional champion in like three hours, starting with nothing but a Mudkip. If you're like Ash and just living care-free with no responsibility except pokemon training, a year sounds like a pretty reasonable timeframe to raise up 5-6 pokemon, even including rest and leisure.
Even with the obscure passage of time in the anime, i'm pretty sure each season isn't happening over the course of several years, and Ash can go from just pikachu to having another team of 4-5 pokemon fairly well trained to take on the league by the end of a season, showing that it's clearly feasable to get that strong within ~half a year with a bit of protagonist luck.

Yeah, and EV training is basically the same thing, albiet simplified; beating certain mons trains you to be better with certain attributes, same as repeating an exercise to strengthen a set of muscles. If anything, EV training works almost entirely on Anime logic; you're telling me my pokemon somehow wouldn't get fast as fuck if I strapped some leg weights on it and trained it by having it chase down Pidgeys?

there's so many natural laws that pokemon fundamentally break, there's no reason to assume that things like EV training absolutely would not work at least in some capacity similar to how they work in the games

obviously it still requires a pretty hefty hands-on approach, especially since pokemon have pretty strong personalities that are going to need to be appeased in order to get them at peak performance, but nothing about it comes off as fundamentally impossible for a person with meta knowledge.

If you wanted to raise your Pokemon's speed, then KOing a bunch of Zubat wouldn't work. You'd need to put them through a training regimen specifically designed to increase speed.

Lmao, this immediately explains a lot about why you think being a trainer would be hard.
Even assuming you don't have a good pokemon to ride on, you don't have to be "extremely healthy and athletic" to walk long distance, it's the one activity we're literally evolved to be good at. If you think you need to be an athlete to walk or hike for 8-10 hours, then you're actually obese.
And there's abundant wilderness between towns, have you never camped outside before or even set up a tent in life?

People go camping all the time in real life and the number of deaths via wild animal are miniscule. The odds of being attacked are basically nonexistant if you practice basic precautions. Just as a thought experiment, threw together a quick 5-man team of mons that would probably be fairly accessible and easy to train in-world, while still being competent for battling

You could probably fit anything else in the 6th slot if you have the capacity to train it, either running something quicker that can stand without trick room, or doubling down on another slow bulk and committing to the gimmick.

But in a real time fight where opponents can make all sorts of plays outside of just standing in one place while launching one of four moves? I'd freeze up and get my shit wrecked in no time. I think "fairly accessible" is a reasonable descriptor. Not counting the rocket-owned game corner prizes, in some places they can be found in the wild and also they can be bred for like most other pokemon, so it's not like they're in a finite supply. Plus 90% of the time you get a Porygon by someone just give it away to you.

As for evolving, an Up-Grade is just a floppy disc, if anything it's going to be easier to get than 99% of other evolution items that are precious stones or rare natural phenomena. Hell, you can probably buy one from Silph Co directly with same-day delivery. And even if you do need to trade to use it for some reason, just to a trade-back with literally anyone who has 2 minutes spare to give you a hand, or offer to help someone else looking to evolve their Machoke/Haunter/Kadabra at the same time.

if making a digital pokemon was so simple that more than just one high-tech corporation could do it, there would probably be a lot more examples of purely digital pokemon than porygon running amok
there are multiple dex entries claiming it can't be copied. though with it being able to reproduce with ditto, it's possible that there are a few breeding programs out there. but I can't imagine knowledge of its reproduction being so widespread that any random trainer could get a hold of one without any trouble.
I feel like you'd have an easier time getting pretty much any other non-legendary non-starter pokemon outside of extreme examples like spiritomb or gholdengo

The anime is an idealized version with some videogame mechanics, but if we transpose it to a more realistic universe that requires dedication, knowledge and experience, not only advantages and disadvantages influence, but also parameters such as the battlefield, weather conditions, the genetics, nutrition, psyche, and thousands of variants that a video game cannot simulate (Just think of the skater who ordered her competition's leg broken, or the cases of the mafia involved in fixed games and Box fights, or sabotage due to international conflicts)

The main problem is that it requires an exaggerated amount of skills to qualify, on the one hand you need to have a great knowledge of all species (Biology, Anatomy, Ethology, Genetics, Physiology), understanding of their attacks and movements and the interaction of these ( Physics, Chemistry) to be a great strategist (Probability, statistics, operational, tactical, ballistic) and that's not counting the knowledge required for the breeding of superior specimens and the skills and knowledge of survival traveling alone around the world.

Get mad all you want, but most here would never leave their town/city and be like those adult characters with a shitmon.

True, although I think Magikarp in anime is also considered very frustrating to actually train, even if it's common knowledge that it evolves into Gyarados. I mean, even without having to win battles, I can't imagine it's easy to exercise a fish that just flops around helplessly as its only attack. Rare candies are a thing. Get a Shuckle and you can guarantee 2 level ups per month.
That said training would indeed require extensive knowledge and effort.

If it were me, I would pester my parents to get me a bred pidgey, murkrow or whatever basic bird you can in advance. As my first pokemon a few years before i get to officially be one. I don't see a why common pokemon wouldn't be found in a place that breeds Pokémon for chump change. Getting a lil bird that is related to a champion's pokemon would naturally be unrealistic, but some above average bird? Not that hard.

Pokemon centers probably have scanners and there are portable devices availible for money too.

If your regional bird is Starly/Talonflame/Oricorio/Rookidee you can look forward to an awesome starter.
Even if you can't battle with them till 10 you can still exercise them, feed them supplements and teach moves.

Imagine being a "newbie" trainer strolling around with a EV trained high IV Corviknight/Corvisquire.
Unless you run into electric specialists you are on MC mode.

No they don't, they've never appeared. The characters never use them, they just train their Pokemon to learn those moves, or they learn them naturally by "leveling up".

If you want to be fit during your journey as a trainer you have to get a Pokemon that can help you with that. Being a trainer is hard because you are mostly on your own unless you are with a group. You better make sure you can cook well and can afford basic stuff for you and your Pokemon.
Trying to win the league against other trainers could lead into some bullshit battles because they can use the power of friendship or something to have stronger moves. You have to improvise your moves a lot in order to have a chance to win.

Depends.
Assuming a scenario where i reincarnated as a young boy.
>save up allowance on every step
>study like i wanna be a poke proffesor (breeding, biology, anathomy, first aid, diet, herbalism, ranger course, kickboxing, physics, energy theory)
>aim for sponsored starters (regional starter) under the service pfaproffesor
>barring that choice get a scanner and use it to find decent common mons or a well bred growlith
>spend the first three months entirelly on training/learning moves/expanding basic team
>then go for the challange in a well paced manner minding the time and rotating team members (don't skip the minor gyms as those are extra badges for qualifications)

So i could at least get to the qualifier rounds i guess..
Just hope i start somewhere like Jhoto or Sinnoh with well maintained routes.
