Im pretty sure that in the Gen1 context (IE: Gameboy games) Arcanine is actually stronger because Special was busted and Fire worked off it.

The schism between them is more of a thing that happened over time, and it is hardly the only "Set" of Counterpart Pokémon that been broken apart.

No. And this is one of the reasons, Ninetales' special was higher than Arcanine's. Also its speed (so, its critrate) was better. Ninetales got fire spin and confuse ray, Arcanine got nothing of those.

Ninetales>Arcanine was what i was trying to say, but i fucked up by not proof reading my post before i posted, so that is on me, but yeah you are entirely correct, Ninetales got the Special, Speed and Move Set Edge, Arcanines superiority established itself with the Special Split netting it a stat advantage and Special/Physical Split netting it fire moves that works off Attack.

It's weird, but GF seem to hate ever changing the stats of pokemon. Regional varieties, gimmick upgrades, fancy items that boost stats? Sure. But every fixing the shitty stats of some pokemon, that's out.
Still like Nintales, one of my favourite fire types.

Another complete fucking retard. Fire/Ghost. Look at where Vulpix is found in essentially every generation it shows up in (always near or directly inside Ghost areas), read its dex entries, and look at its fucking movepool my God look at the fucking movepool.
You want Fire/Fairy because it matches you being a big flaming faggot rather than it even remotely making sense for Ninetales

Torkoal is a better drought mon, it has better defense, lower speed to win weather wards, and gets better utility moves like rapid spin, stealth rock, yawn. there's a reason people stopped using ninetales when torkoal got drought.
