The reason Gen 2 was so great was because it was such a colossal leap from an already great Gen 1. Gen 2 to 3 was also great. If someone dropped a 3DS in your lap in 2005 with Sun in it you would have shat your pants, but because it was a stale sequel in a stale franchise you hated it.

Thing is, for any other series no one would say that because almost everything it did was a gimmick and poorly thought out.

It thematically makes much more sense for N to have Reshiram, glorifying a misguided Truth that Pokemon are oppressed under the yoke of humanity.

And Hilda/Hilbert opposes them with Zekrom, and the Ideal that although there are stumbles along the way the future lies in Pokemon and humans continuing to cooperate.
