I just beat the E4 today with Typhlosion, Hypno, Weezing, Granbull, Steelix, and Seaking.
Typhlosion was my lowest-level member, it only barely evolved. I'm going to make an entirely new team for Kanto.

Ah yeah, "whatever in GSC" is usually just Flareon.

Charcoal-powered Fire Blast from 95 Sp.ATK still hits like bricks and Shadow Ball, QA and Headbutt are okay on physical side.
Also it's fucking cute and that's more important than stats and moves.

Headbutt is an amazing move for the early game so you lose nothing by teaching it your Pokémon, checking headbutt treees takes half a minute at most, headbutt trees are everywhere, and Heracross strong enough to be worth it (less so in the orignal due to its meh movepool but 125 attack is still great)

my emerald team I had when I was 12 consisted of Swampert, Swellow, Exploud, Rayquaza, Groudon, and Kyogre.
Not sure why I didn't want to use more than three or four pokemon, and also not sure why I kept Exploud instead of my Gardevoir.

The move tutor in gen 2 is only in Crystal and doesn't teach Headbutt, but it's a moot point anyway because you can infinitely buy the TM for it for 1000p at the Goldenrod department store.

It evolves very early in Crystal and it will learn Earthquake with a lot off dedication.
HGSS Donphan shows up a lot later but it at least has Magnitude and some elemental fangs via move relearner.

Trips check out. After starters and Gardevoir these are like the most popular pokemon in hoenn. Strong even in base forms and easy to level up as Aron has a great movepool early on and Trapinch has massive attack.

My GSC team was Alakazam and nothing else. As soon as you get catch abra you can elvolve it all the way to alakazam and you can teach it the elemental punches for coverage
