Lance has been one of my favourite pokemon characters ever since he hyperbeamed a dude. HGSS also did good in making him feel strong by giving you that double fight in which he's probably ~10 levels higher than any other pokémon on the field.

I don't know why they built up the expectation that the Champion has some position of authority in the Pokemon world all the way back in the second game, if they were never going to follow up on it. Like I don't think there's any other champion who actually tries to stop the evil team in any other game. Even Platnium Cynthia just follows you around and exposits but doesn't actually help you fight Cyrus or Giratina

Never understood why red just left like that. There is no explanation given. Why not include a journal in his room in pallet about his reasoning to go? There was a doujin I read that actually cares to explain it basically saying he became obsessed with being a Pokémon master and being the best. Why not include that in the actual game?

I suppose. I would have liked to see blue come up like oak does when you win against the champion when you beat him in gold/silver. Basically tell red that he doesn’t have to be a reclusive autist anymore and his friends are worried about him. But I guess that’s part of the imagination when he disappears at the end.
