And countless more minor things that really add up. I understand it's pretty much the tertiary mascot after pikachu and eevee but if they're gonna make it this blatant at least give some love to the other kaaaaaaannnnnttttttttooooooooooo starters as well.

This. Gamefreak has a "favorite child" starter pretty much every gen.
Gen 1: Charizard (it's so fucking obvious)
Gen 2: Typhlosion (returned for PLA)
Gen 3: Blaziken (broken hidden ability and got its mega released first)
Gen 4: Infernape (got to be a second CHARIZARD in the anime)
Gen 5: Samurott (returned for PLA)
Gen 6: Greninja (OP protean + Ash greninja, the other two are shitmons)
Gen 7: Incineroar (broken in doubles, got into Smash over waluigi and phoenix wright)
Gen 8: Cinderace (ugly af but gets Libero and was front and center in all marketing)
Gen 9: Meowscarada (the only one that isn't stupid looking)

Charizard really wasn't that obnoxious before gen 6, so it was kind of nice to see it pop up because it wasn't CONSTANTLY in the spotlight. Since then, they've been desperately appealing to the people who played gen 1 and dropped the series as soon as gen 2 came out by shoving le epic dragun into anything and everything.

Zard just looks lame. Short, fat, overgrown, ugly shade of orange lizard with wings and weird giraffe horns. It struggles against the first 2 gyms and in general feels weak in every Kanto game, especially compared to Venusaur who mollywhops the first 2 gyms, resists Surge, looks badass and is useful throughout the whole game with status moves and leech seed cheese. Even as an autistic child I never understood why people liked this retard.

Look at Charizard's megas again, now imagine if either of them was the only one, bleak right? They're both half baked and underwhelming on their own and only by existing together do they begin to resemble a regular design.
