During 2018-2019 people were asking for remote or long distance raids so they could do them without making mad dashes to gyms. Niantic swore up and down there was a bunch of technical issues with that and it would never happen. Then the rona happened and like a week later they rolled out remote raid passes and gave them out for cheap and some free weekly.
Once rona ended most local communities were dead because people moved and quit and no one cared about gen 5. That meant the only way for most non-city people to do raids was remotes or hope that 5* dropped on community day or something. Niantic didn't help with this since most of the legendaries have released over the last few years have been dogshit with bad movepools or repeats with new moves. So now they are doubling the price of remotes and capping the number of remote raids you can do and it's made people bubble over

No you will have to pay 200 hankecoins per remote or have a chance to get them free with your weekly stamp shit. The bigger problem is that niantic is running out of shitmons to bring in. Gen 8 is probably this year and once there isn't any new mons the playerbase is going to fall off even harder because no one outside of schizos will keep playing for shadow powercreep

We still have some missing Pokemon, hell, last year they finally got around to adding Zorua after Gen 5 Pokemon were added during 2019.
I'm sure Niantic will try to milk Gen 6 and 7 generations for all they're worth before doing the same with Gen 8 and 9.
Of course, how many people will still be playing after the shit they pulled is beyond me.
