Your first 2-3 visits are incredibly short, mostly just meant to tease players with roadblocks they can’t get past, then when you need to go to snowpoint it’s a bit longer, needing to go through a foggy underground passage up the mountain range (Which is perfect, having the northern snowy areas be so disconnected from the rest of the region makes it feel remote and hard to reach) then finally after you beat the team Galactic Base you’re tasked with trekking up the mountain for real.
Truth be told the place is only really supposed to be a “dungeon” on your final visit, that’s when you unlock the vast majority of its areas. Before that it primarily just serves to divide Sinnoh into 3 chunks: West, East, and North. Conveniently each with one lake, forming a nice triangle with Mt Coronets peak and spear pillar at the Center. It’s more of a geographical design thing than anything else, although I do think it would have been nice if the player was teased with its later areas a bit better
This is why Sinnoh needed a proper remake, so much about the games would’ve been so strongly enhanced by the 3D visuals, and Mt Coronet would have been one of them. Actually being able to see the mountain from basically anywhere in the region would make it feel much more like the central landmark it’s supposed to be
