Legends was one of the series best games. BDSP repaired a lot of DP's flaws and is one of the better Switch pokemon games unironically. Sinnoh got a great deal.

I was bitching about ride Pokémon in 2016. I was bitching about the strength rock changes in 2011. I have never understood HM haters aside from them being unable to be replaced without the move deleter, which shouldn't have been an issue ever since HMs were unable to be stored in the PC.

Yeah it does. HMs placed some constraints on teambuilding but in the end they were more of a hassle than an obstacle that's rewarding to get around.

You might as well argue that everything has a good distribution since you can just trade. BDSP has some Platinum mons as well as the DP exclusives, and in the postgame you can a huge amount of pokemon.

Not in the game. Dexcuts are the norm now.

The friendship mechanics don't start to activate until around Pastoria, or even later if you just don't grind wild pokemon much. Just use the bitter healing items if they're that much of an issue to you. In any case people still struggle with BDSP's E4 because the friendship boosts aren't guaranteed to activate.

DP was, is and always will be the worst game in the series, well, BDSP is worse by being a 1:1 remake for $60, but DP was dogshit even when it came out which is why PT had to do so many changes compared to most other 3rd versions.

The literal only reason anyone likes Sinnoh is because it came out at that sweetspot where a lot of people born in the mid/late 90s got their first handheld consoles and played Pokemon for the first time, the amount of people on this board alone who started with, and therefore defend Gen 4 are sickening.

HMs are very often shit tier moves like rock smash and no one wants to give up a slot on their mon for defog, cut or whirlpool or whatever. In Gen 4's case you need defog AND fly and defog could mostly only get learned by birdmons so your staraptor (because that was pretty much the only gen 4 birdmon option available unless you had Pearl and held out for a Murkow) had to give up half his moveslots to HMs, OR you needed to get an HM slave which sucked.
Same deal with being required to run a water Pokemon in most games and needing surf, waterfall and whirlpool/dive.

It's not hard to spread HMs among your team, but it's not fun and no one likes doing it which is why they aren't in the games anymore. There's also the fact that HMs have that slow ass cutscene and smashing rocks has the chance to make you encounter a geodude or whatever, shit sucked.

Oh forgot to add that being required to run a water pokemon sucks sometimes, while it's not the worst thing in the world, in games where there aren't HMs, I end up tending to not use a Water Pokemon at all. HMs can restrict team building or at the very least it's more fun to make a team with just Pokemon you like and not be like "well I need to get a Flotzel because it can learn water HMs".

I also tried doing no-defog and it's been a fucking decade and some change but I still remember how god fucking awful that one fog route was with zero defog because it's very long and has a ton of trainers and fog lowers accuracy and has a message every single turn making Gen 4's already slow system nightmareish.

BDSP has all of DP's problems that were fixed in PT like the nerfed story, no battle frontier, shit regional dex, etc, but also it's own host of issues like forced EXP share in a game not designed around it, broken friendship bonuses, gutted contents, no GTS, removal of unground base customization, etc.

BDSP took all the bad things about DP, and all the bad things about modern Pokemon games, and combined them into a disgusting slurry of a game. That's why everyone wanted a fucking Platinum remake.

Simple changes in my eyes. I wish that game freak would allow these changes, but I'll just keep pirating and modding the games to be good. I've stopped looking towards game freak for quality when the community provides it instead

well you know what if you can at least enjoy the game, even if it has to be modded, then hats of to you. BDSP in my eyes is so pointless that even without the forced EXP share and affection mechanics, it just dosen't add enough to DP. even ORAS was a lot better in that regard. people complain about no battle frontier and while it's a valid criticism triple and rotation battles don't exist in Emeraled so ORAS does have some sort of niche. i don't think BDSP did anything other than adding hidden abilities and a shitty version of following mons (at least they tried i guess)

I just see a path of games that can be played full on a single screen, whether that be on a switch or full modded to be some fan made HGSS or BW remake, failing that, we have a *fine* remake of the original gen 4 games. My real hope is that ILCA are allowed to make another remake, hopefully in Unity again. I completely agree with you, its a completely pointless game. It's only purpose is to fill in the Gen 1 to 4 dexes for home, but the fact it was made in Unity just opens the gates for more dedicated people to do things to it.

Yeah at the end of the day. Game Freak are not going to change their ways. Lets hope we can get a modded BF with Platinum story in BDSP some day. That shit will live on, past the Switch's life in emulators in 60fps 1080p rather than stretched DS pixels with a small screen for the touch screen
