I swear they put interns in charge of him in m8, he was so shitty and inconsistent looking. I'm loyal to yng because she draws him pretty close to the way I always envisioned him as a kid.
But honestly his personality is what I liked first, I was in denial for a while bc his canon art is so bleh. I can understand why some people like the 'I can fix him' stuff but I like him for the opposite reason: a normal, healthy guy I can depend on to raise kids with. Drama is fun in fiction but not irl, keep that shit away from me. Traditionally minded + family values, strong convictions, motivated, disciplined, canonically gap moe caring nice guy(tm), cares about his reputation, successful, seems austere but has a taste for the finer things, and trains hardcore pokemon without fear... he's exactly what I want more of in this world.
Also I have a thing for berserkers.
