It wasn't "scrapped", they just made it a counterpart (Heracross) instead of an evolution.

This doesn't even look like an evolution, it looks like a baby form if anything. Megas are shit but at least Mega Pinsir was one of the few cool ones.

I also feel this way. I love sableye like you wouldn't believe. And he was lucky enough to get a mega that didn't look like complete doodoowater. But it also means he will never ever ever get an actual evolution. Also his mega didn't even give him great stats, he was still a pretty shitmon. It also sucks having to megaevolve every battle. You should be able to mega evolve a pokemon outside of a battle and then only be able to carry one on your team at a time.

Heracross mogs it and it had a shit movepool in gen 1 and 2. Steel type would have made it good defensively. Steel type moves bcame more common in the following gens. there's a chance it could have got Iron Head if they hadn't scrapped it

wasn't sableye good in gen 6 comp? i thought it was a great stall mon, but i haven't played comp in years and i don't recall i ever used mega sabeleye so maybe somebody can fill me in

I still think a pinsir evolution would have worked fine, but it would need more design tweaks to make it more distinct

i consistently like mons from gen 1 and 2 a lot better than what came after. gen 2 betamons are pretty good (minus babies) because they were drawn in the same art style as the gen 2 mons that made i into the final game

The mask is a decoy, the supposed backsprite elaborates it. I am fairly sure the eyes are on the top of its head and that Pinsir is a "quadrupedal bug" that can also go bipedal when attacking or defending.
