Show off your idea for a convergent line (and mon if it’s a single-stage). Pic related is a convergent Slugma line that are based off of banana slugs and are Grass-types (with the evolved form being part Ground-type).

if the point of it weren't actually being a slug then it wouldn't be called Slugma. That's like saying Torkoal is just an oven that happens to look like a tortoise

Hasn’t it ever occur to you that it’s called Slugma because of its appearance?
OP being a regional variant wouldn’t make as much sense since they’re made of completely different materials (one is made of lava and the other is plant-like)

the dex says it has organs, implying it isn't literally just living magma. Even if we were to entertain the idea that it is, your concept still doesn't work as a convergent because you're just going from something that is basically slug to a real slug and not changing up the percieved animal. Anyone who looked at it would just say it's a variant and slugma getting a grass variant would be not that out of the question considering many fire types get non-fire variants like Rapidash going from fire to having actual hair

an example of a proper slugma convergent given the existing ones would be something like a shaggy dog with ears like slugma's flame bits

it's based on a sea anemone
then the gloom one is coral & the oddish is "seaweed" (seaweed isn't an animal like the other ones, so it's just got a symbiotic relationship with seaweed)

You are confusing divergence with convergence

If you wanted to make a convergence, use a snake, a caecilian (legless amphibian), or a worm that physically resembles a gastropod with and without a shell.

To be honest, GF did a lousy job only drawing a terrestrial tentacruel and an aquatic dugtrio and saying that they are a mushroom and a fish without changing practically anything from the original two, so the most casual public only sees them as regional forms.

I think they should have brought this concept little by little and use examples within their own universe, for example Rhyorn and Lairon
