More memorable design and better evokes the feeling of a being an actual character that you can travel with which I'm sure resonates with a lot of people (otherwise, why would they keep doing it). I'm sure they know and understand the popularity of things like Charizard and Venusaur as cartoon animals and that whole thematic, but that's like creating lightning in a bottle and the much safer route of designing this falls under the jobmon category

Anything before that is a kalos schizo cope, and it shows in how completely different every starter trio has looked to each other since gen 6 whereas 1-5 all look like a TRIO that belong together

Meowscarada and the duck are definitely jobmons, but I don't see it with Skeledirge. I know it's got a songbird on its vaguely instrument-shaped head, but when I think of a jobmon its a biped that has an obnoxiously obvious theming. The gen 8 starters are the worst offenders, and are all absolute dogshit.

I think Skeledirge is the best starter final evo since gen 4, maybe even gen 3.

Skeledirge has a problem called underdesigned-low poly model along with an overdesigned tacky headpaint.
