The whole idea of Ash taking the side of Pokémon and ending battles/ownership is basically what N was and stood for. He really was ahead of the curve for evolving Ash’s story, wanting a new generational hero, and giving meaning to the movies. This was all cock blocked because the marketing department and easy telephone line to the execs communicated to them that ending Ash would stop sales of merch, which was absolutely wrong and ludicrous.
