>>53642736>>53642132The issue with Detective Pikachu is that it went for the 'realistic' approach when it's extremely obvious Pokemon just don't work in that style. Pokemon were designed to look like not-dragon quest creatures first and foremost, bringing them to the big screen with "what if we took these cartoony designs and made them 100% realistic, and then took an extra step to make them very ugly because ugly=realistic" is an inherently flawed mindset on par with 2000's internet tier "bro what if Mario was gritty and when he stomped on a koopa shell blood came out lmao".
Sonic movie tried the exact same thing, and as bad as Sonic fans are, they didnt try to make excuses for something looking as hideous as the initial Sonic design for the movie. Pokemon should have done the same thing, thrown out hyper realism for Pokemon being in high definition the same way Pokken does by giving Pokemon more realistic anatomy but retaining the cartoony features that stop them from looking like walking abortions.
