>>53658275IDK seems a weird route to go down if you give a fuck at all about lost media, which I think he does (or at least his thing right now is like lost-media-adjacent). Most lost media itself ISN'T of spectacularly high quality or is just outright bad; the appeal is trying to find something that was once available, now isn't, and preserving it once it's found regardless of its quality.
>who gives a fuck about preserving the 4kids dub of animeUh, lots of people? I don't think any 4kids dub is even lost media, and shouldn't be because it's like an iconic time capsule or whatever of just how ridiculous anime dubbing used to be at its worst in North America. Something something if you forget history you're doomed to repeat it etc. Those dubs are interesting not as accurate translations of the Japanese products but as their own fucked-up things. Also for Pokemon specifically, that dub still kinda has a fairly good reputation since Pokemon was enough of a tame kids' show anyway that the edits were comparatively minimal next to their other dubs, and most people who remember the early anime on this board probably didn't watch it entirely in Japanese.
But my main point that I get people might be missing is that this guy just kinda seems like a smug prick and it's offputting/not a great encouragement to check out his other stuff. And this seems to be a common attitude in western Gen 1 resarch communities or whatever you'd call them.
>>53658294>Where's the problem? Shouldn't they be preserved by other sites too if they're so important? That's what I'm saying. The quote isn't MY sentiment but what Lewchube is saying more or less verbatim in a bunch of responses.
