I'm about to try my first 3d game but I don't know if I should pick sword or shield.
Help me decide.

It won't make much of a difference to your overall experience to be honest. I like some of the Shield pokemon more so that I guess
If you intend on playing pokemon again, I'd recommend not jumping back in with the lowest point of the whole series.

ORAS > SWSH > SV > SM/USUM > XY
For the sake of perspective, ORAS is like a high-mid tier among the 2D games.

Fuck these autists, i was on the fence on buying shield after scarlet since I read so many bad things about it but once I got it it turned out surprisingly good and comfy. Locations are nice, and while it is a bit handholding I don't think any pokemon game is actually hard, it's honestly stupid to expect that. If you care about competitive it's the best game for that, and raids at least FUNCTION.
