This is actually pretty good.
Not because dark type would make them better at all, but because mono poison, fighting, bug... is so overdone the get completely outclassed.

pinsir should've been changed to dark type, it's supposed to be the rival species of the fighting type herracross (and it seems to be a kind of "hero villain" motif)

Totally agree with Arbok, Primeape, and Hypno. Not sure there’s really any others besides those three that I would add Dark to, though. Spinarak/Ariados makes more sense as Poison since they’re spiders.

Spinarak/Ariados don't have a single mention of poison in their dex entries, not even later ones. They are also representative of night and literal darkness for Dark-type, same reason as Umbreon. In a grey area like this it's better to go for what's unique in any case.

Others should keep their original types, at least as far as gen I and II are concerned.

Dark types are characterized by being cruel, crafty, clever or being born from darker conditions. Look at Murkrow. It's not exactly ruthless, but it's more tricky and mischievous since it's steal shiny things from people or intentionally lead predators into Dark mountains so that they get lost.

It fits the dark type mold just fine.

Dark doesnt just mean evil, it also means underhanded/sneaky. Arbok's belly pattern freezes prey/opponents which is a very underhanded tactic.

Being nocturnal is not an aspect of Dark. Even disregarding that plenty of Pokémon that evolves at night is not part Dark. Tons of other non-Dark Pokémon are also nocturnal.

So every Pokémon who stalks or dazzles their prey should be Dark. That's a shit ton of Pokémon.

That's the only time any of Girafarig's entries have mentioned anything related to Psychic prior to gen IX. And it's in relation to its tail.

I think Normal/Psychic is fine for Girafarig. If you wanna make it Dark, it should be Normal/Dark since the normal head is the Normal type, the tail head is what makes it Psychic, so if you change something, it should be that.

Dark(Evil) is such a fundamentally flawed type. It's stupid enough to assign morality to creatures often depicted to be guided by instinct, but on top of that plenty of other types like Poison, Psychic and Ghost have attacks that could be considered underhanded.

But that's not the ONLY trait that matters. Plenty of dark types also show traits that they're mischievous/deceitful (Murkrow, Thievul, Zorua) or isolated (Absol, Tyrannitar, Sableye, Darkrai).
Dark types seems to have multiple characteristics without needing to show off all of them at once. They can be cruel, but they also just be misunderstood. Like at Absol. It's kind and shows up to warn people of incoming disasters, but because of that, people misunderstood and thought it was the cause of said disasters so it was shunned and stayed away from others. All it's dex entries say it's introverted by staying in the mountains and doesnt like fighting, but despite that, it's one of the few pure dark type in the entire series.
