I mean, in terms of monster design this thing is pretty damn sick. It's LITERALLY the closest we'll ever get to a car Pokemon and there's barely and fans for it.

Poison/Steel was a combo I was excited about for a long time and while I don't dislike it, I wish they put more effort into the mon.
Its movepool sucks and it could've used a third evolution or at least allow players to use the type moves the Team Star bosses used.

It's pretty cute, I like it, although I like most objectmons. It's probably the most natural concept for a car mon to have an engine block spontaneously come to life and extract rocks to use as the body instead of the whole pokemon being artificial. Sadly objectmons are rarely popular, there's Magnemite, Chandelure, maybe a few others I'm forgetting.

This. They really over designed this thing and not in the sense of adding too much stuff like too many spines or spots or whatever. They just added too many elements that didn't need to be. It could have simply just been the engine itself and that would have been fine. It seems like they just really wanted to do this Pokémon and have it be a part of those car battles and then didn't really know how to animate it outside of those battles, so they slapped it on this stupid four-wheel rock body and now we are stuck with it. I really liked the idea before the game was released and all we have was a couple images and people were speculating it might be some kind of weird squid that could latch on to mechanical machines like cars and just basically control them. It does do that, but the design is completely off and it's pretty damn ugly. It also has a really shallow move pool and its stat spread and abilities don't really make sense. It is unfortunately another Type Null situation where it really just exists for story elements and they didn't really think too far beyond that

When this thing was first teased I imagined the engine wouldn have been standalone, reoriented, and not attached to fucking rocks. I feels like they wanted to make an engine Pokemon but didn't think the logistics of it through all the way. Why the fuck does it float? why does it have WHEELS IF IT FUCKING FLOATS? If it floats why doesn't it have levitate? How do you make an engine pokemon, attach it to rocks to make it a full car and then go "Oh wait uh nevermind, it doesn't actually roll around, it floats" They just dropped the ball so fucking hard

I, like many other people, think it's ruined by flying for some reason. That's retarded. It's honestly a pretty good design otherwise, just barely not good enough to make the cut for me. But, being the carmon that also flies for some reason that also doesn't have levitate even though they specifically wanted it to fly makes it an F. Fuck it.

There's few fans of it because the majority of people still playing the last couple gens are NPCs on Twitter/Facebook and are barely people. Unfortunately there's tons of them, so the games still sell well.
Normalfags don't give a shit about Pokemon outside of the starters and a small handful of other mons, and a rock-engine-ghost isn't even on normalfags' radars.

I think it's a little cool, but the concept is odd. Why is it a ghost possessing an engine? Why doesn't it drive around? Is it based on something from mythology somewhere, or did they just pull a steel/poison type out of their ass just to fill a type combo niche? Why randomly slap that eye and mouth onto the front willy-nilly?

Valid. It's the fact it floats for me. Floating is a classic Pokémon trope, look at Geodude and any fishmon out of water and I'm into that — but this thing is based on automotive parts and has wheel-like axel-esque appendages. Carkoal was introduced in the previous generation — I wonder if they deliberately tried to differentiate the two by any design means possible? I actually think both Rev and Var look pretty decent but this is an instance where the floating is off.

When it was leaked and even teased in Team Star's cars it was getting constant threads. It was called the "fairy killer" and some people said it was their favorite new design in years. I don't know if it was the wheels or the fact that it wasn't good in competitive that killed the fanbase. Something similar happened to Cetitan. Meanwhile Gholdengo was criticized and ignored when it was teased but now gets more threads than the pokegirls from the same game >>53629537. The popularity of a Pokemon is more closely tied to how powerful it is compared to how good the design is. There is also a lot of hate for shitmons and people wanting to remove them from the game >>53662634.

I love my shitmons but I think one day GF is going to succumb and make games with tiny rosters where the powercreep makes mostly the new Pokemon viable. You can already see this in SV starting to take shape. This will be great for competitive players but I think it will cost the little balance and game design remaining in single player. They will sacrifice everything in the name of competitive "balance".
